Sitka
The
Russians purchased the land for Sitka from the Kiksadi Indians in 1799 for a trading
post. Sitka seems to be able to
maintain a balance between its old fashion charm and modern conveniences. Sitka
Sound offers some of Southeast Alaska’s best wildlife viewing which we took
advantage of by taking a day cruise on a smaller 40-passenger excursion
boat. We spotted whales, sea otters,
eagles, deer, sea lions, and numerous sea birds, which I have forgotten the
names of. Oh, did I mention that it
rained?
